NEW ZEALANDER IN AIR COMMAND

(Official War Correspondent). CAIRO, November 20.

A straight-talking, youthful veteran of the First New Zealand Expeditionary Force today directs Britain’s air war in the Western Desert. He is Air Vice-Marshal Arthur Conyngham, C. 8., D. 5.0., M.C., D.F.C., A.F.C., who holds the post of air officer commanding this vital theatre.

Air Vice-Marshal Conyngham came from Wellington and began his distinguished service career with the New Zealand infantry as a member of the party which took Samoa in 1914. He then transferred to the Royal Flying Corps and has been with the Royal Air Force in Britain and the East ever since the Great War.

Easily approachable, candid and sharp-witted, he has a likeable belief in hitting the enemy where it hurts most.
