BURNSIDE STOCK SALE

YESTERDAY’S MARKET (P.A.) DUNEDIN, November 19. A yarding of 310 fat cattle was forward at the Burnside sale compared with 265 last week. Several consignments of prime heavy bullocks were forward with a heavy penning of prime medium-weights. The sale for ox beef opened at last week’s rates, but there was soon a firming of 15/- to 20/- for this class along with heifers, which were in keen demand. Cows, especially rough sorts, were 20/- cheaper. Quotations were: Extra prime heavy bullocks to £23/12/6, prime £l7/12/6 to £l9/12/6, prime medium £l4/7/6 to £l6/2/6, light to £l2/12/6, extra prime cows and heifers to £l3/17/6, prime £lO/17/6 to £l2/7/6, medium £B/12/6 to £9/7/6, light from £5/12/6. An entry of 1189 fat sheep was nearly enough for butchers’ requirements. Butchers’ ewes were in short supply and a fair number of the ewes penned were just good freezers. On the exceptionally good sale of last week there was ar? easing of a good 2/- for all grades. Quotations were: Best lambs to 32/-, prime 24/6 to 27/-, medium 22/- to 23/6.

Only a few pens of store cattle were offered. A good pen of four-year-olds made £l4/5/-, three-year-olds to £lO 15/- and 2!>-year-old steers £7/5/- to £B/5/-.
