QUEENSTOWN

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING The monthly meeting of the Queenstown Borough Council was presided ! over by the Mayor, Dr W. A. Anderson. The Lands and Survey Department, Wellington, advised that the appointment of Mr J. S. Royds as a member of the Frankton Aerodrome Board was being proceeded with. The clerk of the Lake County Council forwarded a circular lettei- from the adjutant of the Home Guard, Group 11b, in which it requested that the Queenstown borough give £8 a year towards the expenses of the Home Guard. The town clerk was instructed to advise that as the council would supply the hall and lighting free for parades and training and social events it considered that these concessions were on a par with the amount asked for. Mr L. G. Lynch, wrote stating that some years ago the Queenstown Football and Cricket Clubs had formed a committee to raise funds for improvements to the recreation grounds and stated that there was a sum of £6/17/6 on hand for this purpose. He asked if the council would subsidize this amount in having the grass cut and the ground topdressed. It was agreed to accept this sum and in the meantime have the grass cut. The matter of topdressing the ground would receive attention in the autumn. The Department of Justice wrote in

reply to the council’s inquiry concerning the closing of a street at the back of the courthouse. The letter stated that as the right of way from Ballarat street to the rear of courthouse buildings provided the only entrance for vehicles to the courthouse and it would oppose any closing of the right of way, but had no objections to the closing of the right of way situated at the rear of the courthouse sections. The Lands and Survey Department would be advised of this decision. I It was decided to remove lighting, water and pit conveniences from the old camping ground as this ground was to be closed to campers. It was decided to peg off the sites in the new grounds. The Bank of New Zealand wrote stating that its architects were concerned that the borough could rescind the building line by-law after granting a permit for new buildings conditionally on the building line being set back 33ft from the centre of the street. It was resolved that the municipal association s solicitor be written to for advice on the matter. A resolution that the building line by-law be not rescinded was lost.
