BLUFF NEWS
OBITUARY The death occurred at Bluff last week of Mrs J. Fletcher, a well-known resident of the town. Mrs Fletcher was the third daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Denis Hogan and was born at Makarewa. She was educated at the Makarewa public school and after living in Invercargill for a short period came to Bluff in 1906. In September 1912 she married Mr James Fletcher. Mrs Fletcher was a keen worker for St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Misses Marjorie and Kathleen Fletcher, both of Bluff, and one son, Mr Allan J. Fletcher, who is serving overseas with a railway operating unit. Mr Terence Hogan (Makarewa) and Mr Michael Hogan (Invercargill) are brothers and Mrs D. Farnie (Invercargill) is a sister. PERSONAL Leading Aircraftman Bernard V. Crawford was the guest of honour at a function arranged by the Citizens’ Farewell Committee. In making presentations to the guest the Mayor, Mr N. W. McGorlick, spoke of his fine sporting record and his popularity with everyone at the port. He wished him many happy landings and a safe return. Other speakers were Messrs D. E. S. Mason and R. N. Porter.
