PATRIOTIC FUND FINANCE
PROVINCIAL COUNCILS TO CONFER
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, November 13. Representatives of the eleven provincial patriotic councils are to meet the National Patriotic Council and the National Patriotic Fund Board in conference in Wellington on November 20. The main subject for consideration will be the board’s financial requirements for the year ending September 30, 1942.
The remits on the agenda paper include finance, the next appeal for funds, patriotic regulations, overseas remittances, rehabilitation of members of the New Zealand Forces, mufti allowance to men returning to civil life and supplementary grants and pensions. The question of raising patriotic funds by taxation instead of by appeals to the public is again to come before the conference. One suggestion is that the Social Security tax be increased by 3d in the £1 for 12 months and that the money so collected be handed over by the Commissioner of Taxes to the National Patriotic Fund Board and provincial patriotic councils. This suggestion comes from Taranaki.
