PROVINCIAL OF MARIST ORDER
BROTHER LOUIS VISITS INVERCARGILL Aftex’ an absence of 43 years, Brothei- Louis, Provincial of the Marist Order in New Zealand, Fiji and Samoa, paid a visit to Invercargill this week. Brothei’ Louis, who was born in Invercargill and attended the old Marist Brothers’ School in Clyde street iix 1897, was recently appointed provincial head of the order, and has been on a toux- of inspection of all the Marist Brothers’ schools since he arrived in New Zealand three weeks ago from Australia. Brothei’ Louis left Invercaxgill on Wednesday for Timaru and will return to Auckland about the end of next month. His headquarters will be at Sacred Heart College. Brother Louis is the youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs Martin Hughes, who lived in Elies road opposite the water tower. He expected to find many changes in Invercargill, but expressed surprise at the progress made by the city. He found the main streets, with their modern shops and business premises, almost completely changed.
