TRAVEL ASSOCIATION

MR H. L. GIBSON RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT At the fifth annual conference of members of the South Islands Travel Association of New Zealand held in Christchurch this week, Mr H. L. Gibson was re-elected president for the , third year in succession. Mr Gibson stated in his annual report that with the object of stimulating a greater degree of interest in the association he had travelled extensively over the South Island since the early part of the year, and advisory committees had been formed in Nelson, Blenheim, Timaru, Oamaru, Dunedin, Invercargill and Stewart Island. The West Coast had yet to be visited. Many new members were obtained, and the association’s revenue was thus increased by more than £BO. Up to last January, it had been the practice to issue a monthly bulletin. It was ascertained that, although the association was working along the right lines, the bulletin did not go far enough. It was therefore decided to cease the publication and to produce a quarterly magazine. In its first two issues, this quarterly magazine had shown a steady advance, and its future prospects were bright. Mr Gibson said that the association was the only one of its kind being maintained by private subscription, both the Australian National Travel Association and the South African Travel Association receiving State subsidies. In spite of its difficulties, however, the association had weathered the worst of the storm, thanks to the loyalty of its supporters, and an optimistic view could be taken of the future.
