IMPORTANCE OF RAW MATERIALS

MANUFACTURERS’ PROBLEM (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 22. “At this stage I would emphasize the importance of the maintenance of supplies of raw materials,” said Mr - D. I. Macdonald, secretary of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Association, at the annual meeting of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association. “This is the manufacturers’ 1 iggest worry today and 1942 is likely to see the result of the delay by Government departments in issuing licences now fox - essential materials. One day’s delay may mean weeks or even months of ‘hold-up’ later. Evidence of the seriousness of the position is becoming available daily. Rapidly increasing prices overseas also mean that less materials are available for each £lOO worth of licence. Manufacturers cannot continue to meet the country’s and the Army’s requirements if these unnecessary delays in issuing licences are not overcome.” Mr G. N. Jackson was re-elected president of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association.
