BRIGADE RECEIVES CALL

Sparks from locomotives have caused several fires in the past in the neighbourhood of Panton street and a complaint was made by one of the residents of Woodhouse street that these fires were a menace to hedges. The Invercargill Fire Brigade received a call at 11.38 a.m. yesterday to what was thought to be a grass fire near the railway line in Panton street. However, it was discovered that railway employees were engaged in burning off gorse and broom near the railway line and the services of the brigade were, of course, not required.
