GORE NEWS

TENNIS CLUB From a membership and playing point of view the season was again a highly satisfactory one, the annual report of the Gore Tennis Club states. The enthusiasm displayed by members was very encouraging. Because of the war and the consequent shortage of players, it was difficult at times to obtain enough men for matches, and it was with regret that the club had to withdraw its B grade team from the competition. The balance-sheet of the club shows a slight loss on the year’s workings, but there is still a credit balance of £B/13/7. MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB’S SHOOT Twenty-two members of the Gore Miniature Rifle Club took part in the club’s final competition for the season when there was some good scoring. The championship button was won by J. J. Ferris, who recorded a scratch score of 79.5. The handicap button was won by J. R. Buchanan with a score of 77 on a five handicap, from G. Wilson with 76 on a five handicap. In later practice shoots three possibles were scored, J. T. Taylor shooting an 80.6, M. Mallon an 80.6 and P. F. Hay an 80.5. PERSONAL Mr J. A. Roy, member of Parliament for Clutha, who is acting for the member for Mataura, Lieutenant T. L. Macdonald, visited Gore yesterday. Mr Roy visited the Gore High School during the afternoon, and it is his intention to further the claims of the Board of Governors for the erection of a new building. Mr Roy was also a guest at yesterday’s luncheon of the Gore Rotary Club.
