HITLER WILL MEET BORIS

ANKARA REPORT KING ACCOMPANIED BY ARMY CHIEFS (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 21.. King Boris of Bulgaria is on his way to meet Hitler, according to reports from Ankara. He is stated to be accompanied by his army chiefs. Others at the conference will be the German Foreign Minister, Herr Joachim von Ribbentrop, the Com-mander-in-Chief of the German Army, Field-Marshal Walther von Brauchitsch, and the Commander-in-Chief of the German Navy, Grand Admiral Erich Raeder. The report has not been confirmed in London. Following the proclamation of a state of emergency in Bulgaria, the Axis radio has made determined endeavours to force that country into war with

Russia. It quoted alleged landings by troops from the air and by sea in a Bulgarian province, and further alleged that in July Russian aeroplanes dropped bombs and propaganda pamphlets. Bulgaria’s protest, it stated, was rejected by Russia. NAZIS MAY INVADE TURKEY Bulgaria is hourly expected to enter the war against Russia. British observers believe that a German invasion of Turkey is also imminent. The New York Times Ankara correspondent says that Bulgarian and Russian diplomatic relations are expected to be broken off tonight. After a six-hour emergency meeting Bulgaria strongly protested to Moscow about the sinking of the freighter Rodina. The Rome radio stated that a Russian mine sank the ship. London papers feature the Nazi invasion threat to Turkey. The Observer says: “Turkey is understood to have rejected the German ultimatum to hand over the control of the Dardanelles and whatever she wants from Turkey.” The News of the World’s diplomatic writer says: “There is little doubt among military experts that Hitler is about to invade Turkey. Well-in-formed observers believe that the attack has been delayed only because the Nazis hoped to persuade Turkey to allow Italian ships, flying the Bulgarian flag, to enter the Black Sea. Little has been said of the Allied preparations to meet such an attack but any developments can be regarded with confidence.”
