APPEAL FOR CLOTHING

An appeal - for clothing, especially woollen goods of the heavier varieties, for the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild was received by the Southland County Council at its meeting yesterday from the president (Lady Newall). The guild collects clothing for needy persons in Great Britain. The council decided to refer the letter to the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. AURORA AUSTRALIS During the month of August the aurora australis was seen eight times from Otautau. The expected repetition of the aurora, which occurred early in July, appears to have taken place on the nights of the 3rd, 4th and sth, That on the night of the 4th was of the maximum brightness.
