AMERICAN “GADGETS” ON HESS’S PLANE

NEW YORK, September 4. The Messerschmitt flown to Scotland by Rudolf Hess was equipped with many American “gadgets,” according to Mr Donald Dunning, who has returned to the United States from Britain, where he has been an instructor to the Royal Air Force on Lockheed bombers. Mr Dunning said that on examination of the Messerschmitt, he was amazed to find the tyres bore the name of a United States manufacturer. The fuel tank called for American octane aviation spirit and a popular brand of American lubricant was specified above the oil intake valve.
