VICTORIES OVER AXIS
MR COOPER QUOTES FIVE SUCCESSES (Rec. 9.55 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, August 26. Mr A. Duff Cooper, who is on his way to Singapore where he will represent the British Government, expressed his belief that Germany had stopped bombing Britain because Hitler was convinced that such attacks were futile. Mr Duff Cooper added that since last September Britain had won five great victories over the Axis. They were:—• (1) Britain had repulsed Hitler’s attempt to invade England, which began with the air raids. (2) Britain had defeated Hitler’s attempt to crush British morale by night bombing. (3) Britain had crushed Italy’s abortive campaign in North Africa. (4) Britain had defeated Germany’s attempt to recapture North Africa. (5) Britain had defeated Hitler’s submarine campaign, which had been designed to destroy British communications and transportation lines.
