Captain W. Bell, area commander of the Home Guard, will leave today for Dunedin where he will attend a coference of area commanders. He will be accompanied by Lieutenant-Colonel E. F. Selby, of Gore. Mr W. G. Wight, of Dunedin, secretary of the South Island Dairy Association, left for Dunedin by the afternoon express yesterday after a short visit to Invercargill , Mr M. J. Forde, president of the Wellington branch of the Southland High School Old Boys’ Association, and Mrs Forde arrived by the express from the north last evening and are staying at the Railway Hotel. Mr S. G. Dallard, railway booking and parcels clerk at Invercargill, has been transferred to the position of shipping clerk at the Invercargill goods office. His place will be taken by Mr W. T. Anderson, stationmaster at Milburn.
Mr Henry Barnett, who for the past three seasons has been manager of the Goodwood dairy factory, has left for Rangiora, where he has been appointed manager of the Cam dairy factory. Mr F. G. Craig, district railways traffic manager at Invercargill, who has been visiting Wellington on departmental business, returned by last night’s express.
Mr E. M. Strachey, for many years with the Christchurch branch of the Phoenix Assurance Company, Ltd., has arrived in Dunedin to take over the position of branch manager for the company in Otago and Southland.
Mr J. Curtin, stationmaster at Tuatapere, will be transferred shortly to a similar position in the Christchurch district. He will be succeeded by Mr F. R. Duffy, stationmaster at Pukeuri Junction.
Mr W. Anderson, who has been appointed sole teacher at the Greenhills school, will begin his duties after the holidays.
