USE OF POISON GAS SUGGESTED
LONDON, July 27. The Ankara correspondent of the British United Press says that authoritative diplomatic quarters state that Baron Franz von Papen, German Ambassador to Turkey, has implied that the Germans may use poison gas against Britain. Baron von Papen in attempting to persuade Britain to join Germany against Russia at the beginning of the Eastern conflict, is reported to have declared that Russia was certain to use poison gas. It would therefore be advantageous to Britain to dissociate herself from Russia in order to prevent the spread of gas warfare to the Western Front. British diplomats reveal that the Germans concentrated large supplies of poison gas on the Channel coast in August when they were planning to invade Britain.
