TUATAPERE

HOME GUARD PARADE On Saturday afternoon two companies of the Tuatapere district battalion of the Home Guard with a total strength of about 150, attended the monthlyparade which was held at Pukemaori. The fall-in took place at the hall, Mr J. O. Harper, battalion commander, being officer-in-charge. It had been intended to have field manoeuvres, but the wet morning necessitated a change in plans and instead company drill was practised under the following company commanders: B Company, Mr A. Mitchell; C Company, Mr A. Findlay. A heavy shower interrupted the parade and-after dismissal the guardsmen returned to the hall. Afterwards afternoon tea was served while platoon commanders were able to check up on the new forms which have to be filled in by each man. B company officers and N.C.O.’s at present meet each Wednesday evening in Tuatapere for special instructions, and they are fortunate to have the services of Mr J. McLauchlan, physical training and bayonet instructor at Trentham during the Great War. EARLY LAMBS Lambs have already made their appearance around Tuatapere. During the past week or more odd ones have been noticed on the properties of Messrs V. Austin and James Young. The present mild weather has brought on a noticeable growth of grass in paddocks which are not being grazed, and if it continues it should result in a plentiful supply of grass in the early spring.
