CLIFDEN AIRMAN HONOURED

There was a large gathering of friends in the Clifden Hall to honour Pilot Officer R. J. Watson, R.N.Z.A.F. The evening was spent in dancing. Extras were played by Miss M. Ridder. Solos were sung by Messrs P. Sim and A. Henderson. Mr D. O'Brien (chairman) made a presentation of a wristlet watch to Pilot Officer Watson with the best wishes from the local residents. Mrs A. Miln, on behalf of local women, presented him with an outfit of knitted articles. On behalf of the Western Star Football Club, of which the guest had been a member, Mr A. Findlay also made a presentation. Mr Ralph Gardner handed him a fountain pen from members of the Clifden Tennis Club, of which Pilot Officer Watson was president. Other speakers were Messrs G. Duthie and S. Skipworth.
