OHAI RAILWAY BOARD

GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT The monthly meeting of the Ohai Railway Board was held at Wairio. Mr D. D. Macdonald presided. The general manager (Mr A'. W. Rodger) reported as follows: The output of coal from the mines during the past four weeks has been very satisfactory and the aggregate haulage for the expired portion of the financial

year when compared with the same period last year shows an increase of 1787 tons, whereas when the board last met a month ago a decrease of 1269 tons had to be recorded.

A communication from the signal and electrical engineer of the New Zealand Railways was received and indicated that there was an acute shortage of the materials necessary for the proposed installation of signals on the OhaiCrawfords section of the board’s line, and because of the war- there would be considerable delay in obtaining supplies. The district signal engineer has been absent from Invercargill for some

time, but he is expected back shortly when I shall go fully into the matter w'ith him and again report to the board.
