OBITUARY

MR PETER McSKIMMING

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, June 6. The death occurred tonight of Mr Peter McSkimming.

Mr McSkimming was born in Ayrshire in 1872 and came to New Zealand at the age of six. After some years’ experience in brick and pipe works he took over with his father the works of John Nelson (now McSkimming and Son), which were developed in many directions. He was an elder of the Stirling Presbyterian Church and was interested in social movements. He was chairman of directors of McSkimming and Son, the Leviathan Private Hotel Company, the Bruce Woollen Company, the South Otago Freezing Company, the Kaitangata Coal Company and the South Otago Starr-Bowkett Society, and a director of A. and T. Burt Ltd., the Otago Farmers’ Co-operative Association and the Dominion Fertilizer Company. He was member for Clutha from 1931 to 1935, when he retired from politics.
