SOUTHLAND SOLDIERS AMONG_MISSING The following Southland names have been included in lists of missing soldiers after the operations in Greece: — Lance-Sergeant Charles John West, husband of Mrs C. J. West, Invercargill, i and the eldest son of Mr and Mrs B. | West, Shannon street, Bluff. He was an | oysterman and left the Dominion in | the early part of the war. At the time it was generally surmised at Bluff that he was the “sergeant who came from Bluff,” mentioned by the war correspondent as having navigated a small boat with a party of men evacuating from Greece.

Private William Dodds, brother of Mrs S. Jackson, Edendale, and Mrs R. Wylie, Seaward Downs. He was born in Scotland in 1907 and came to New Zealand when four years of age. He was educated at the Edendale school, after which he was employed in the racing stables of Mr R. E. McLellan, Invercargill. Later he was engaged in goldmining on the West Coast, but returned to Invercargill on the outbreak of war. He was a member of the Edendale Football Club.

Driver P. D. Jones, second son of Mr and Mrs J. W. Jones, of Gummies Bush. He was a keen member of the Riverton Football Club and was a member of the Riverton Fishing Club. He was born in Dunedin and educated at Gummies Bush. No news has been received of his brother, Driver G. Jones. Signalman Thomas John O’Hagen, son of Mr and Mrs Patrick O’Hagen, of Pukerau. He was born at Pukerau and received his education at the Pukerau school and the Gore High School. He later joined the staff of the Post and Telegraph Department, and for eight years was stationed at Pukerau. He was then transferred to Dunedin and then to Timaru, from which centre he enlisted. Private Fergus Stuart McCallum, son of Mr and Mrs A. McCallum, Teviot street. His parents received advice after the Greek campaign that their son was safe. He was educated at the Woodend school and was engaged in farm work at Woodend. At the time of his enlistment he was a slaughterman at the Ocean Beach freezing works. SOLDIER WOUNDED Private Andrew Lawrence Stroud, who has been reported wounded, is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. J. Stroud, of Christchurch and formerly of Gore. Private Stroud was born at Gore and received his education at the East Gore school and the Gore High School. He was in the service of the Railway Department for some time, and when he enlisted he was engaged in insurance work on the West Coast. SOUTHLAND SOLDIERS SAFE Mrs J. Hargest, of Rakauhauka, received a cablegram yesterday from her husband, Brigadier Hargest, stating that he is safe and well.
