STOCK SALE AT LORNEVILLE

LARGER ENTRIES IN MOST SECTIONS

KEEN COMPETITION FOR FREEZING EWES

Larger entries were penned in all the main sections at the Lorneville stock sale yesterday. There was only a small entry of poor quality fat cattle. The market fluctuated somewhat. In the middle of the sale prices were £1 higher than last week, but they receded towards the finish.

There was keen competition for freezing ewes and prices for butchers’ sheep were about 1/- better than the previous week. Following are the individual yardings at the last two sales:—

FAT SHEEP A full yarding of fat sheep was penned. There was a fair percentage of good quality mediumweight wethers. Competition for freezing ewes was keen, values ranging from 14/- to 17/-, while prices for butchers’ sheep of all classes were about 1/- a head better than last week. Good quality mediumweight wethers made from 26/6 to 29/3, lightweights 23/6 to 24/6, unfinished 20/- to 22/-, aged fine-woolled wethers 11/6 to 19/-; good quality butchers’ ewes 14/- to 15/-, medium 11/6 to 12/6, inferior 9/6 to 10/6. The entry of fat lambs included a few pens of real heavyweights, but the majority was light and unfinished. There was strong competition from export buyers at the new export schedule

rates, and prices in most cases were even 1/- above these rates. Heavyweight lambs realized as high as 35/-, but the majority made from 24/- to 26/6.
