Mrs E. J. Weir, Orepuki, is spending a holiday at Queenstown. Mrs T. Wray Wilson, Avenal Flats, has returned from a holiday in Christchurch.

Miss Ruth Lush, Don street, has returned from a holiday in Christchurch and Motueka.

Mr and Mrs R. Dunnage, Orepuki, are spending a holiday at Te Kauwhata and Hamilton.

Mrs G. B. Giller, who has been the guest of Mrs T. G. Giller, Duke street, leaves tomorrow on her return to Christchurch.

Miss Diana Moffett, Louisa street, leaves today for Auckland, where she will study at the Art School. Miss Ngaio Marsh, Christchurch, is visiting Dunedin, where she is the guest of Mrs J. McG. Wilkie, of St. Clair. There were eight tables in play at the Bridge Circle of the Southland Women’s Club on Monday evening. Prizes were won by Mesdames J. M. Gillanders and J. W. P. Vickery.

The late Lady Kinsey, whose death at the age of 92 years occurred in Christchurch recently, was the wife of the late Sir Joseph Kinsey. In 1880,

shortly after their marriage she and her husband arrived in New Zealand from England. All their married life was spent in Christchurch. Lady Kinsey shared with her husband a keen interest in old furniture, miniatures, and pictures, which made the collection at their home outstanding. Sil- Joseph Kinsey died in 1936. Lady Kinsey is survived by one daughter.

MUSIC CIRCLE MEETS

PROGRAMME OF ENGLISH MUSIC An interesting programme of music by the English composer, Edward German, was presented by the Music Ciicle of the Women’s Club last evening. An instructive paper describing the life and work of German was read by the chairman, Mrs J. D. Gilmore. The programme was as follows:— Piano duets, “Nut Duet from The Gipsy Suite” and “The Morris Dancers from “Henry The Eighth,” Mesdames A. E. H. Bath and F. Jones; vocal solo, “Love is Meant to Make Us Glad” from “Merrie England,” Mrs E. K. Mills; song, “Orpheus With His Lute,” glee party; vocal solo, “Perfect English Rose,” Miss V. Thomson; song, “The Yeomen of England,” glee party; piano solo, “Pastorale,” from “Henry The Eighth,” Mrs F. Jones; piano duets, “Tempo Di” and “Bravura” from “Tbo Gipsy Suite” and “Country Dance” from “Nell Gwynn,” Mesdames Bath and Jones; vocal solo, “Bird of Blue,” Mrs P. Frampton; vocal solo, “Oh, Peaceful England,” Mrs A. Mewton; piano solo, Mrs F. Jones; song, “Rolling Down to Rio,” glee party.

Mrs J. Morrison and her children have returned from a holiday at Mataura.

Mrs M. Egerton, Gorge Road, is the guest of Mrs G. Finn. Mrs Mouat, Tuatapere, has been the guest of Mrs T. Finnerty. Miss Dulcie Thompson has returned to Mataura.

Mrs Purdue has returned from a holiday at Invercargill and Waikaia. Miss Olive Wilson, Invercargill, is the guest of Mrs N. H. McNay. Mrs Halpine has returned to Roxburgh after spending a few weeks with her mother, Mrs S. Wolfe.

Mrs G. Ferguson was the guest of Mrs Frew, Woodlands, recently. Miss M. Davis, Invercargill, spent last week-end at her home at Waihoaka.

Miss O. Popham, Invercargill, is spending a few days with her parents, Mr and Mrs F. Popham. Mrs G. Griffin, Te Wae Wae, was a visitor to Invercargill recently. Mr and Mrs T. Egerton, Winton, spent a few days in Orepuki recently as the guests of Mrs G. Finn. Mrs Thomson has been spending a holiday at Winton. Miss Betty Brown, Invercargill, is spending a holiday at her home at Waihoaka.

Mrs McEwan, Invercargill, has been staying with her sister, Mrs T. Latchford.
