FAREWELL PARTY

MR AND MRS G. W. GARDNER HONOURED

In the Wairio public hall recently a social and dance were given in honour of Mr and Mrs G. W. Gardner and their family, who are leaving the district. Mr C. H. Withers was chairman. Mr C. Keen, on behalf of those present, wished the guests of honour a bright and prosperous future, and presented a leather suitcase to Mr Gardner, a travelling rug to Mrs Gardner, and a sum of money to each member of the family. Mr Thomas Todd, president of the Wairio Jockey Club, wished them the best of luck in their new venture.

Mr R. Donnelly, on behalf of the Wairio residents, Mr D. McLean, on behalf of the Nightcaps Dog Trial Club, Mr J. Hogan, on behalf of the Wairio Trotting Club, Mr W. O’Brien, on behalf of the Wairio branch of the Birchwood Hunt Club, and Mr M. Forde, on behalf of the Wairio Excelsior Cricket Club, also spoke. Mr J. Blackwell spoke on behalf of the workers and Mr M. Soper for the railway community. Remarks were also made by Mr D. Robertson and Mr J. Valli.

Music was supplied by Messrs T. Luke, A. Kennedy and J. McColl, while Mr D. Mills played the extras. Mr M. Forde was master of ceremonies.
