ILLEGAL NETTING OF FISH

A suggestion that suitable pieces of old iron should be dumped in the water at places where it was known that illegal netting of fish was taking place was made at the annual meeting of the Southland Acclimatization Society last night. It was pointed out that if this were done the iron would tear the nets which were flimsy affairs, and that this was likely to prove an effective deterrent to those who indulged in this form of illegal sport. Netting, it was said, was becoming

prevalent and the chairman (Mr S. M. Macalister) said that they would have to get the society’s ranger to look into the matter.
