Cloudy With Rain

(Special) WELLINGTON, May 26. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington: Fresh to strong northerly to westerly winds turning soon to southwesterly. The weather cloudy with rain at times. Temperatures becoming cold with snow later on the high country; seas rough. Following is the Dominion forecast: The weather cloudy to overcast generally with rain at times in most districts. Some heavy falls likely in Westland. Temperatures moderate to mild,, but becoming colder in the south with snow on the higher country in Otago, Southland and South Canterbury. Winds: North-westerly to westerly over the South Island, later backing to south-westerly in the far south; elsewhere northerly continuing. Force, moderate to strong generally. • Seas (New Zealand waters): Very rough at first south of Farewell Spit, but moderating; elsewhere rough at times. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong north-westerly to westerly winds in the southern portion soon backing to southwest; sea very rough, but gradually moderating; strong northerlies elsewhere with rather rough seas.

The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine and mild. Light rain fell in the evening.
