STOCK SALE AT LORNEVILLE

FAT SHEEP DOWN 1/A HEAD SMALL YARDING OF FAT CATTLE Values of fat ewes and wethers dropped 1/- a head on last week’s rates at the Lorneville stock sale yesterday. There was quite a full yarding of fat sheep with a bigger percentage than usual of wethers. Good quality wethers realized up to 27/-. Good quality lambs made up to 30/-. The yarding of fat cattle was small, and except for a few sorts it was of rather poor quality. Medium quality bullocks made up to £ll/15/-. The yardings at yesterday’s and last week’s sales were as follows:—

FAT CATTLE There was a small yarding of fat cattle, which, with only a few exceptions, was of poor quality. For three parts of the sale, values remained un- ! changed, but over - the last part bidI ding was keen. FAT SHEEP There was quite a full yarding of fat sheep with a bigger percentage than usual of wethers. The majority of these were unfinished and fine-woolled. Values for both wethers and ewes showed a drop of 1/- a head on last week’s rates. Good quality wethers realized from 25/6 to 27/-; medium 23/- to 24/-; unfinished 18/- to 21/-; freezing ewes 11/- to 14/-; good quality butchers’ ewes 12/- to 14/-; medium quality 10/- to 11/3. There was a smaller entry hi the fat lamb section. Some lambs of particularly fine quality were yarded, but the majority were light and unfinished. Good quality lambs realized up to 30/-, with un- I finished sorts making from 19/- to 22/-. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., sold:—A. G. The yarding of store cattle was a small one and comprised mostly empty cows, there being only two small pens of bullocks offered. Three-year-old steers made from £6/10/- to £B. A pen of mixed sex calves sold at £2/12/6. Best empty cows made up to £4/5/-, others £3 to £3/15/-, and cull sorts down to £l. A pen of speyed cows realized £3/10/-. There was a better demand for dairy cows at profit, best sorts making close on £l3 and others £9 to £lO/10/-. Factory calvers sold at late rates. Bulls made from 10/- to £l.

STORE SHEEP The entry of store sheep was larger than last week’s. With the exception of two lines of breeding ewes it consisted of oddments. A line of three-shear ewes was passed in at 24/-. Good fullmouthed ewes made from 15/- to 17/-. Aged failing-mouthed sorts made from 5/- to 8/-. Store wethers sold from 17/t< 20/-.
