TWO-WAY TELEPHONE CONVERSATION

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 20. A two-way conversation by telephone between the former president, Mr A. A. Ross, and the delegates attending the Auckland Provincial Conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union took place today from Mr Ross’s home at Mission Bay, where he is confined by illness.

The president, Captain H. M. Rushworth, said the Telephone Department had installed plugs through the two exchanges, two land lines, microphones and loud speakers at each end, the arrangement being a triumph in engineering. In a brief address Mr Ross said the union was approaching the half century and growing from strength to strength. He wished members a successful conference. A number of the delegates sent greetings to Mr Ross, the president paying a warm tribute for his lifelong service. The conference was attended by the Dominion president, Mr W. W. Mulholland.
