ASSISTANT ENGINEER BIDDEN FAREWELL
PRESENTATIONS MADE TO MR R. P. FISH
The regret felt by the works and reserves staffs of the City Council at the departure from Invercargill, of Mr R. P. Fish, assistant city engineer, who has been appointed borough engineer at Hastings, was expressed yesterday when the staffs met Mr Fish at farewell gatherings. Mr Fish will leave Invercargill tomorrow for Hastings. At a large gathering of members of the reserves staff, which included scheme 13 relief workers attached to the department, Mr W. Stapleton made a presentation to Mr Fish of a travelling rug and an inscribed silver cigarette case. He spoke of his pleasant association with Mr Fish since they had been placed in joint control of the department on the departure of the superintendent, Mr B. P. Mansfield, on active service. Mr A. A. Hume and Mr W. McDonald also spoke. An inscribed chiming clock was presented to Mr Fish at a gathering in the yard of the works department, where
there was practically a full attendance. Mr W. J. Tattersfield made the presentation on behalf of the employees of the works department, the water works and scheme 13 relief workers. He said that the men’s relations with Mr Fish had been particularly happy and they sincerely regretted that he was leaving Invercargill. He extended the best wishes of all staffs for Mr Fish’s success in Hastings.
In his replies at both gatherings, Mr Fish said he was deeply appreciative of the generous remarks which had come from the men of both departments. He felt that the departments were well and efficiently staffed, and he would carry with him pleasant memories of the workers with whom he had been in contact in Invercargill.
