LICENCE FEES REIMPOSED
Tractors For Farm Use
Concern at the reimposition of licence fees this year for tractors and trailers used for farm purposes has been expressed by farmers in Southland. Last year licence fees were remitted by the authority of the Hon. R. Semple. Many complaints have been received, by the Farmers’ Union, which is looking into the matter.
The insurance for a farm tractor last year was 10/-, and 2/- was charged for number plates, but this year registration fees have been added. There has been a slight increase this year in the insurance to cover 13 months, but the rate of insurance is the same. This year the same charges operate, with the addition of a licence fee of £2/3/4. For tractor trailers a licence fee of £l/1/8 is added, and if the trailer is a new one the farmer is called upon to pay an extra 20/-, which was not imposed last year. A farmer with a new trailer is therefore faced with the prospect of paying £2/9/2 this year, against 7/- last year.
