MEN TO RESUME WORK TODAY

CHAIN SLAUGHTERMEN AT BELFAST

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 19.

Work will be resumed tomorrow morning on the chain at the Belfast works of Thomas Borthwick and Sons, Mr R. T. Bailey, officer-in-charge of the Labour Department, reported tonight after the workers had held a meeting at the Trades Hall. A request to all the men to report for duty was made by Mr Bailey. The meeting of workers decided to accept the company’s offer to start the chain. That offer was rejected by the branch executive on Saturday, but on its being renewed by the company today it formed the basis of discussion at the meeting of members. The chain which will begin work tomorrow will include the two men originally selected by the company. A promise was given to both the company and the workers by Mr Bailey that the appointment of a tribunal to decide the issues in dispute would be made without delay by the Hon. P. C. Webb, Minister of Labour.
