COUNTY CANDIDATE’S DEATH
(P.A.) DANNEVIRKE, May 19. A note of tragedy was injected into the Dannevirke county elections by the death of Mr George James Buchanan, a farmer, of Waitahora, who, as an aspiring new member, headed the county poll for both the Dannevirke hospital and power boards. Within an hour of the poll closing, and before the results were declared, Mr Buchanan had a fatal seizure after a routine job on his farm. He was president of the Dannevirke Agricultural and Pastoral Association, a member of the Electoral Committee of the Meat Board and had been a wellknown farmer in southern Hawke’s Bay for half a century. He leaves a widow-' and an adult family.
