DUTCH PARTY VISITS WELLINGTON

PLEASED WITH DOMINION

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 19. The Dutch ministerial party was welcomed at Wellington by the acting Prime Minister, the Hon. W. Nash, Sir Harry Batterbee, United Kingdom High Commissioner, and Dr W. A. Riddell, Canadian High Commissioner. Dr E. N. Van Kieffens, the Netherlands Foreign Minister, and M. Charles Welter, Colonial Minister, said they were delighted with what they had seen of New Zealand, which reminded them both of Holland and Britain. Count Van Pechteren said he never could forgive the early Dutch explorers for colonizing only the spice countries. “When Tasman came here and could not find nutmeg he went away and left this beautiful country,” he said. The Ministers paid a formal call on the acting Prime Minister and the Mayor and placed a wreath on the Citizens’ War Memorial. They later went sight-seeing and will be guests at a State luncheon tomorrow.
