WOMEN’S DIVISION

MORTON MAINS.— Mrs Jefferis presided at the monthly meeting of the branch. After discussion it was decided to hold the birthday celebrations early in August. Discussion took place about the spring show and it was decided to hold it as usual and to review the schedule at a later meeting. A competition was won by Mrs Smith. The best bloc i competition resulted: Mrs Jefferis 1. In the competition for the best bowl of autumn leaves or berries, Mrs Warnock was first and Mrs Jefferis second.

MYROSS BUSH.— Mrs Saville presided over a fair attendance at the monthly meeting of the branch held recently. Competitions resulted: Cushion worked in wool, Mrs Bolger 1, Mesdames Chisholm and Dawson (equal) 2; bloom. Mrs Saville 1, Mrs Bolger 2. It was decided to hold the second birthday of the branch on June 27. Mrs Samson gave a demonstration on hairnin work which proved most interesting. Soldiers’ parcels were collected as usual. In future members are asked to contribute one shilling a month towards soldiers’ parcels.

DRUMMOND.— The monthly meeting of the branch was held recently, Mrs R. J. Woods presiding. The secretary reported having forwarded four more soldiers’ parcels to local soldiers, making a total of 13 sent since last October. Squares for a patchwork quilt were brought to the meeting and it was arranged to meet in the hall on Wednesday, May 21, in the evening to sew up the quilt. A novelty competition was won by Mrs S. Macdonald with Mrs C. Macdonald second. Roints for the best bloom were: Mrs Wilson 1, Mrs Woodhead sen. 2, Mrs A. Chilton 3. Competitions resulted.—Useful and pretty bag apron: Miss M. Hallum 1. M’’« Railton 2. Jar of apricot jam: Mrs S. Macdonald 1, Mrs A. Robbie 2.

THORNBURY.— At the May meeting of the branch, Mrs J. L. Foster presided over a good attendance of members. A welcome was extended to a new member and visitor. Competitions resulted as follows:—Ginger- snaps: Mrs J. B. McLean and Mrs James McLean (equal) 1, Miss N. Fallow 2. B°<=f bloom’ Miss M. McLean 1. Mrs J. Fallow 2, Mrs J. McLean and Mrs Weir (equal) 3.

SOUTH INVERCARGHX.— The monthly meeting of the South Invercargill branch was held in the kindergarten hall, Nelson street. Mrs Cameron presided. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relation' of nr J ’o-’-nn who organized and formed the division, and was its first president. Six new were enrolled. Mrs Steel (Waikiwi) gave a demonstration on wax flowers and was accorded a vote of thanks. Competitions resulted.—Best bloom: Mrs Pinknev 1. Mrs Anderson 2. Mrs fameron 3. 'Pikelets: Mrs Brown 1, Mrs Fox 2, Mrs Cameron 3.

HnKOMTR — T’-o — meeting of the branch was presided over by Mrs Sims. An interesting exhibit shown by Mrs Anderson was a hank of sisal hemp obtained from a cactus plant and used in making fibrous plaster. Exhibits by Miss Griffiths were a piece of kauri gum and volcanic rock resembling black glass. The competition results were.—Best bloom: Miss Stuck 1, Mrs B. Anderson 2. Shortbread: Mrs W. Y. Mcßae 1, Mrs Hawkins 2.
