(P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 17. In a further statement today commenting on the latest references by the Leader of the Opposition concerning voting on the footwear plan under the terms of the Industrial Efficiency Act, the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) said that after his conference with the executive of the New Zealand Footwear Manufacturers’ Federation he submitted the whole matter to the Crown Law Office for legal advice. The Solici-tor-General (Mr H. H. Cornish) advised him that the plan had been carried out in accordance with the Act. The Minister added that the figure of 50J per cent, quoted by Mr Holland was correct, one figure, 53 per cent., having been quoted in error, but this did not affect the issue as it was indisputable that there was a majority on an employee basis, even though as he mentioned a few days ago, it was a small one.
