THE REV. E. N. GORING HONOURED

NELSON APPOINTMENT

Tributes to their excellent qualities and appreciation of their faithful ministry in Georgetown were expressed by speakers, representing various church organizations, at the farewell social to the Rev. E. N. Goring, who has been appointed minister at Nelson, and Mrs Goring and Miss Gwen Goring in the Georgetown Baptist Church last evening. There was an excellent attendance.

Pastor John P. Miller, vice-president of the Otago and. Southland Auxiliary, praised the excellent work of Mr Goring. He referred to the good progress which had been made in the church under Mr Goring’s leadership and said that his ministry of two years and ahalf had been a most faithful one. The thanks of the extension committee were tendered by the Rev. J. Ewen Simpson. Mr Simpson thanked Mr and Mrs Goring for their faithful work which, he said, was much appreciated. Greetings were conveyed to Mr and Mrs Goring from Mr F. A. Duncan, of the China Inland Mission, and greetings were also brought from Gore by the Rev. L. A. Day. The Rev. Lex Kernohan spoke on behalf of the Invercargill Ministers’ Association and also expressed the pleasure he had had in working with Mr Goring. Other speakers were Mr A. Wise (Esk Street Church). Pastor J. Beck (North Invercargill), Mr W. Matheson, Mr C. Perks and the Rev. H. R. Turner, of South Dunedin.

Miss Jean Piercy made a presentation to Miss Goring on behalf of the Bible Class and Christian Endeavour girls and Mrs F. Schroeder made a presentation to Mrs Goring on behalf of the women of the congregation. The chairman. Mr F. Schroeder, presented Mr Goring with an envelope on behalf of the congregation. Mr Goring, in reply, said he was grateful for the spirit of co-operation which had been shown among the parishioners in their church Work and he hoped his successor would be given support and encouragement. Mr Goring will leave today for Nelson.
