“Mystery of the White Room,” will be the first feature on the Civic’s 6d and 9d programme tonight at 7.45. The strongest cast yet assembled for a Crime Club production will appear in the new film, an adaptation of the novel by James G. Edwards, M.D. Bruce Cabot and Helen Mack portray the principal characters, with Constance Worth, Joan Woodbury, Mabel Todd, Tom Dugan, Roland Drew, Addison Richards and Tommy Jackson in support. The story is laid in a hospital, where the eerie events begin with the scalpel murder of a doctor in a darkened surgery.

With a cast of comedy experts, and what sounds like a hilariously funny idea for its main theme, “Thanks For Everything,” is the Civic’s second feature. Having made so many notable contributions to the entertainment of the average man, Darryl F. Zanuck, in charge of production for 20th Cen-tury-Fox, has now focused his camera batteries on Mr Average Man himself, who is, of all things, the central character in “Thanks For Everything.” This Mr Average Man, according to the studio, is selected in a nation-wide contest, brought to New York with all expenses paid and with the expectation that he is to receive a first prize of 25,000 dollars—and is then promptly set upon by a couple of smart promoters, who see in his innocent countenance the shining light of a million-dollar idea. Jack Haley has the role of Mr Average Man, Adolphe Menjou and Jack Oakie are the promoters, while Arleen Whelan, Tony Martin and Binnie Barnes offer spirited support. Civic prices tonight are 6d and 9d.
