NATIONAL SAVINGS FLAG COMPETITION
Edendale, with 637 National Savings accounts representing 73 per cent, of the total population, has won the National Savings flag in the first competition under the amended conditions, which provide that only towns with a population of 500 or over are eligible to compete. Ohai is second with 479 accounts, representing 51.2 per cent, of the total population. The flag will be flown on the Edendale Post Office building for the next two weeks, and at the end of this period the position of the accounts in the Southland area will be again reviewed.
