VISIT BY DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION
SCHOOLS IN SOUTHLAND TO BE INSPECTED Dr C. E. Beeby, Director of Education, arrived in Invercargill yesterday. He will spend about a week in the province and during this time will visit various schools before going on to Dunedin. This is Dr Beeby’s first official visit to Southland and it is some time since a Director of Education has paid such a long visit to the province. He will meet the Southland Education Board today and will probably discuss with the members the proposed erection of an intermediate school in Invercargill.
Dr Beeby is very much interested in the progress of the schools, and the purpose of his visit is to meet teachers and others connected with education. Tonight he will address a meeting in the United Friendly Societies’ Hall at 7.30 o’clock, and tomorrow he will give an address in the Otautau school at 8 p.m. He will speak in the Cosy Tea Rooms, Gore, at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday.
