MATAURA

HOCKEY CLUB The annual report of the Mataura Ladies’ Hockey Club stated that _ two teams were entered in the competition. The A grade team was successful in winning the Hamilton Cup in the final against Hokonui after a fast and exciting game. After the club fixtures were concluded, a friendly match was played between Southland and Mataura on the home ground, when the visiting team won by two goals to nil. A net profit of £9/19/9 resulted from the annual ball. The balance-sheet shows a credit of £2l/13/11. The opinion was expressed by the chairman (Mi' A. Marshall) at the an-

nual meeting that the Mataura club should not be held responsible for the failure to send a team to take part in the K Cup tournament. Plenty of other players were available and he advocated the setting up this year of a strong social committee at an early date, as it was impossible to raise money and ar-

range for the despatching of players on tour at a moment’s notice. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr A. L. Dolamore; president, Mr A. Marshall; vice-presi-dents, Dr Woodhouse, Mrs C. D. Taylor, Messrs A. E. Barnes, J. K. Valentine, F. Ballantyne and J. Buchanan; secretary, Miss V. A. Brewster; committee, Misses J. and A. Adam, A. Heaps, C. and A. Johnston, H. Maley, J. Haywood, M. Folster, E. Haywood, president, vice-presidents and secretary; delegates to district meetings, president,

Misses E. Haywood and V. A. Brewster; selectors, captains and coach; club captain, Miss J. Adam; coach, Mr J. K. Valentine; trustees, Mesdames J. Maley and A. Webb. It was decided that no alterations be made in the amount of the subscriptions. Opening day was fixed for April 26. Ten new members were elected to the club.
