EDENDALE

TOWN BOARD At the monthly meeting of the Edendale Town Board Councillors W. Irvine (chairman), M. Turned, W. W, Chaplin and J. Morris were present. It was reported that several gorse hedges within the town boundary needed attention. One hawker’s licence had been issued during the month and one summons issued for cycling on the footpath. The health inspector advised that there was a continued absence of any cases of notifiable diseases within the town. Communications concerning the emergency precautions scheme and the guarding of vital points were read and received. The chairman pointed out that with the exception of one or two outside citizens the Emergency Precautions Committee comprised the Town Board members, who would parade with the Home Guard, but in the case of an emergency arising would be expected to take up their appointed duties. Two ratepayers wrote drawing attention to the danger their properties were in owing to danger from fire, because of the accumulation of dry grass in Brydone street. The audited balance-sheet for the past year was placed on the table and the chairman congratulated the clerk on the auditor’s report. Accounts totalling £35/3/10 were passed for payment. The hall rent for the month amounted to £5/13/8 and an account for £l9/3/9 was passed for payment.

Before their departure Mr and Mrs Cochrane and family were tendered a social and presentation in the Morton Mains hall, when a large gathering of friends assembled to bid them farewell.
