SACRIFICE AS AID IN WAR
Saving Of Sterling (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 23. “If we are determined to play our full part in winning the war then we can obviously afford to make relatively greater sacrifices in doing without luxuries.” said the Minister of Finance, the lion. W. Nash, in a statment on the conservation of sterling as a part of the Dominion’s war effort. After referring to the British Government’s latest order for further' curtailing home trade, the Minister said that actually we were doing a great deal to help Britain by curtailing imports of certain things, thus helping the general plan of enabling a diversion of the British effort from less essential goods to munitions. This simply meant taking workers from one factory to another to secure the best possible war effort. That was the plan of New Zealand. If the people realized that temporary discomfort was a direct contribution to the war and quicker victory, then the means would justify the end.
