CENTRAL-WESTERN DEFEATED An easy win by almost 200 runs on the first innings was secured by the Eastern Southland representative cricket team over Central-Western in a match at Mataura on Saturday. Hie match was played in ideal weather and the Mataura recreation ground was in splendid order, the outfields being very fast. Eastern had first use of the wicket and it scored 282 runs. Dunnet and Morgan gave the side a good start and scored 38 before Morgan was dismissed for 15. Dunnet and Southern carried on and took the total to 86, Dunnet being caught out at this stage after scoring 48. Southern, Henderson, Macara, Dey and Agnew all batted well, Macara with 36 and Dey 44 being particularly sound. The ninth wicket fell when the score stood at 224, but a forceful innings by Agnew added 44 to the total. Agnew hit three sixes and two fours and several very powerful shots. He carried his bat for 44 G. Overton was the most successful of the visiting bowlers and he secured four wickets for 61 runs. A. Chisholm, who scored 45, was the only Central-Western batsman to show any form, in fact he was the only visiting player who looked like scoring runs, and the whole side was dismissed for the small total of 89 runs. Besides Chisholm, Hammond and McDonald were the only batsmen to reach double figures. Morgan, Southern and Nisbet shared the bowling honours for Eastern. Central-Western carried on and scored 66 runs for two wickets in the second innings. E. Lee batted soundly for 31 in this innings. The scores were: —
