DOMINION RECORD FOR JUNIOR HIGH JUMP

(United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 23. The outstanding performance at the Wellington amateur athletic championships on Saturday was that of D. R. Blundell (Nelson) in setting a fresh New Zealand record for the junior high jump with 5 feet 10 inches, five inches above the New Zealand standard for this event and four inches better than he jumped last year to win it. It was also three and a-half inches better than the performance of the senior winner and above the New Zealand senior standard.

The Wellington Club again won the R. W. McVilly Shield for the best aggregate in the championship events, with 84 points. Kiwi was second with 41 points and Varsity was next with 27. The Lower Hutt Club won the association’s cup for the country club's championship (juniors and women) with 31 points. Nelson and Masterton each gained 15 points, and Eketahuna nine. Wellington won the J. W. Heenan Baton for the inter-club relay. Interest was added to the championships by the entry of the Air Force team from Levin, which won the A. C. Kitto Shield for the grand parade.
