Fair To Fine (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, February 23. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong north-westerly winds, the weather fair to fine with warm temperatures. Sea rather rough. Further outlook becoming unsettled probably on Tuesday. The Dominion forecast is as follows:— The weather fair to fine with mild to warm temperatures. Cloud increasing in the western districts, however, and later drizzle developing in the far south-western portion of the South Island. General Situation.—The anti-cyclone that has been stationary over New Zealand during the past few days is now beginning to move eastwards. A depression is located south of Tasmania. Winds.—Moderate easterlies in the far north. Elsewhere northerlies or north-easterlies prevailing, moderate at first, but gradually becoming strong about and south of Cook Strait. Seas.—Becoming rough in Cook Strait. Elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising south of Farewell Spit. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Northerly to north-westerly winds soon prevailing. Force light to moderate in the northern portion with moderate seas, but becoming strong in the south with rather rough seas. The weather in Invercargill was excellent over the week-end. On Saturday a slight westerly wind was blowing, but yesterday there was little wind, with bright sunshine. This morning at one o’clock the weather was calm, clear and cool. The barometer readings for the last three mornings have been:— This morning (falling) 30.08 in. Saturday 30.34 in. Friday 30.20 in.
