Further Showers (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, February 4. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Fresh to strong south-westerly winds; some further showers more especially on the coast but bright intervals. Temperatures cool. Seas rough. The Dominion forecast is as follows:— Scattered showers continuing on the Southland coast and in the extreme north. Some isolated showers also east of the main ranges of the North Island, elsewhere fair to fine. Temperatures cool. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone, centred over Tasmania, covers the Tasman Sea and New Zealand. A tropical cyclone is located north of Noumea. Winds.—Gradually turning to southeasterlies almost generally. Force strong at times in the far north and on the east coast otherwise moderate to fresh. Seas.—Moderate or rather rough. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Fresh to strong winds from a southerly quarter. Sea rather rough and later rising in the far northern portion The weather in Invercargill yesterday was cold and wet. A strong southwest wind and heavy showers of rain made conditions most unpleasant At 1 o’clock this morning the weather was cold and heavy rain was falling. The barometer readings for this morning, Wednesday and Tuesday have been:— This morning (rising) 30.12 in. Wednesday 29.74 in. Tuesday 29.60 in.
