MARSHAL PETAIN TO GO TO VERSAILLES
(Received December 3, 11.15 p.m.)
LONDON, December 3.
Il is reported in Vichy that Marshal Petain will soon be installed in Versailles, in the midst of the German masters. This move is viewed with misgiving by Frenchmen who fear the German efforts to embroil France in the war. It is not known whether the Marshal will go alone to Versailles or whether he will be accompanied by the Government. If the Government goes it will be helpless in tlie hands of the Germans,' and if Marshal Petain goes alone the Government will be unable to enforce its authority in Unoccupied France without his personal prestige to back up its decrees.
