ENLISTMENTS FOR HOME GUARD

The rate of recruitment for the Home Guard in the city has improved a good deal recently. The number of enrolments received at the Town Hall was 509 up,to yesterday, but a large number of enrolment forms have been given out and it is quite possible that another 100 new recruits will join up at the weekly parade this evening. The time for the parade has been changed from 7.30 p.m. to 7 p.m., so that full advantage can be taken of the daylight, as it is intended that some of the men should do their drill on the show grounds if weather permits. A parade of the instructional class for officers and non-commissioned officers of the Guard held on Monday night was well attended, 75 guardsmen, all belonging to the city, being present. Sergeant-Major Fowler and Sergeant Manson, of the permanent staff, acted as instructors.
