ASSOCIATION SENDS NO REPLY

SUGGESTION OF BOXING BENEFIT PROGRAMME

A statement that no reply had been received from the Southland Boxing Association to the suggestion that a benefit programme should be arranged for persons injured in the collapse of seating in the Civic Theatre was made at the meeting of the City Council last night. One councillor remarked that nothing would come of the suggestion. Cr R. T. Parsons asked if any reply had been received to the council’s suggestion of a benefit programme. The Deputy-Mayor (Mr J. R. Martin) said none had been received. Cr A. W. Jones said he understood the chairman of the Finance Committee (Cr F. A. Webb) would interview the officials of the Boxing Association. He had mentioned the suggestion to the secretary of the association (Mr F. H. Hughes), said Cr Webb. It appeared that there were difficulties in the way.

“I don’t think anything more will ever come of it,” said Cr A. Wachner.
