PIG PRODUCTS FOR BRITAIN

OPPORTUNITY FOR NEW ZEALAND GROWERS An extract from a letter written by the principal of a leading English meat dealing firm to Messrs T. H. Green and Company, Christchurch, should be of interest to farmers, and particularly pig raisers, in the Dominion: — “We are particularly interested,” states the extract, “to read that apparently some effort is being made in the country to increase supplies of pigs suitable for export. As you know, we have always been of the opinion that New Zealand and Australia should increase pork production. When it is realized that for some years after the war is over there will be little chance of Continental bacon coming to this country in any volume, and if Empire bacon can become fully established on a free trading market, there is no reason why it should not continue to keep out Continental bacon. There is no doubt that both Home-produced and Empire food must be encouraged in the future. It is no good for this country to rely upon supplies from parts of the world that can be cut off at a moment’s notice in the event of war breaking out.”
